How we operate in Railways

The Transport Partner for Railway Operators

Locomotives, railcars and trams have a specific geometry and weight, different from standard industrial machinery. The lifting points, center of gravity and train wheels require a dedicated approach, which we prepare from the planning phase.

As a freight forwarder, we coordinate a dedicated route survey and multi-axle equipment adapted to the rolling stock, through our network of vetted partners, for deliveries to depots, workshops or railway infrastructure sites.

How we work

Why Choose Us for Railways

01

Specialized Handling for Rolling Stock

We adapt the lifting and lashing points to the specific geometry of locomotives and railcars, protecting both the rolling stock and the transport equipment.

02

Route Survey Dedicated to Railway Equipment

We check access to the depot or the final delivery point well in advance, so the transport is confirmed with no surprises along the route.

03

Coordination with Railway Operators

We align with the delivery schedule of the railway operator or contractor, with a single point of contact throughout the project.

Signaling Components

Transport of signaling equipment and rail traffic control systems.

The Specific Geometry of Rolling Stock

The specific challenge

The Specific Geometry of Rolling Stock

Locomotives and railcars have lifting points, a center of gravity and a weight distribution that differ from standard industrial machinery. A lashing error can damage both the rolling stock and the transport trailer, which is why planning starts from the equipment's actual technical parameters.

Through our network partners, we coordinate teams with specific experience in transporting railway equipment, who know these technical particularities and work regularly with railway depots and workshops. We factor in the standard EU parameters: 1435 mm track gauge, GB/GC (UIC) loading gauge, typical railcar lengths from 12 to 25 m and locomotive weights from 80 to 130 t.

Frequently asked questions

Railways: frequently asked questions

As a freight forwarder, we coordinate the locomotive's transport on multi-axle trailers adapted to the weight and center of gravity of the rolling stock, through our vetted network partners. We start from the locomotive's actual technical parameters, with lashing at the specific lifting points, and for units of 80 to 130 t we organize oversized transport with permits and a dedicated route survey.

We choose the equipment based on the length and mass of the rolling stock, typically multi-axle trailers or low platforms that keep the overall height within legal limits. For railcars with typical lengths between 12 and 25 m we use extendable configurations, and the final decision is made after the route survey, so we can confirm access all the way to the depot.

We coordinate loading and unloading at locations without a rail line, using cranes of appropriate capacity or ramps, depending on the equipment's geometry and the space available at the delivery point. We prepare the maneuver from the planning phase, together with partner teams experienced in railway equipment, so positioning in the depot or workshop is done safely.

For transports exceeding the maximum weight or dimension limits, we manage obtaining the special permits from the road authorities in each transit country, together with the required circulation approvals. The dedicated route survey checks bridges, tunnels, roundabouts and depot access well in advance, so the transport is confirmed with no surprises along the route, across the 30+ countries we cover.

The cost depends on the dimensions, weight, route, required permits and any escorts, which is why we calculate the price based on the rolling stock's actual parameters. Send us the type of railway equipment, the pickup point and the destination, and your dedicated project manager will prepare a tailored project quote within 24h.

Yes, we coordinate door-to-door delivery, from the pickup point to the depot, workshop or railway infrastructure site, with a single point of contact throughout the project. On certain routes we combine the road segment with rail or sea legs, depending on local restrictions, with extended CMR insurance of up to EUR 2.5 million tailored to the value of the equipment transported.
